I am reviewing Mother of Pearl by Maureen Lee. This book is set in 1939 and 1971. It switches between the lives of Amy, in 1939, and her daughter Pearl, in 1971. In 1939 Amy fell in love with Barney, a rich young man who lived on the other side of Liverpool to her. He was called up to fight in the war, and lived in a prisoner of war camp for most of it. When he came back, he was different, and Amy wasn't happy. But when their daughter Pearl was born, things started to go back to normal, then when Pearl was five, Amy murdered Barney and Amy was sent to prision for 20 years.
1971, and Amy has been released from prision. Her daughter Pearl is now 25, and has been living with her aunt and uncle since that fateful evening. Amy's release changes the lives of her and all the people around her. But what really happenend the night that Barney was killed?
I really enjoyed this book and think it was written really well. Going between the two time periods really helps you to understand the plot better and I think that the romantic twist at the end is lovely. I love this author and hope to review more of her books in the future.
Wow! This book sounds really intriguing!I am definately going to read it! :¬)
